Special Education Checkup

We work with special education staff to review compliance, implementation, and documentation of FBAs, BIPs, MDRs, and behavioral sections of IEPs (e.g., annual behavioral, social emotional goals and short-term instructional objectives/benchmarks, behavioral supports and related services) using protocols and checklists. We help identify strengths and areas of need. Training and professional consultation are provided to staff to address areas of concern.

We work with district personnel to develop or revise a Special Education Discipline Manual that includes policies and procedures for effectively addressing the disciplinary concerns of student ruled eligible for special education services consistent with federal and state regulations.

The manual addresses the following:

  • Provision of related services to address behavioral concerns

  • Conducting defensible Manifestation Determination Reviews

  • Conducting multi-method FBAs

  • Developing multi-component behavior contracts and BIPs

  • Incorporating alternatives to suspension and restorative discipline techniques into behavior plans

In addition, Fluency Plus, LLC personnel will work collaboratively with school personnel to develop appropriate forms to effectively document compliance with federal and state regulations.

  • MDR Procedures

District-wide and School-based Codes of Conduct

We work with school district personnel and other key stakeholders to align district-wide Codes of Conduct and school-based policies and procedures with the SW-PBIS and RtI models of service delivery. Code revision is based on best practices in behavior support provision, position statements from national organization, and federal and state regulations.

Code revision is designed to incorporate the

  • provision of tiered behavioral supports,

  • effective alternatives to student removal,

  • restorative discipline practices in conjunction with discipline dispositions required by federal and state regulations.
